It is Women's History Month, commemorating the sacrifices made BY women and FOR women to help make the world, and our country, a more inclusive place. Of course, we recognize that women should be celebrated throughout the year, so March kicks off "Do You Know Her", an interview series on the fourth Sunday of each month through October.
Our Exhibitions Char, Sandra Davis, speaks to members Trisha Gupta, Juliet Drake Hossain, and Shelley Lowenstein, each having a nod to science in their work: incorporating the human body, cellular design, and environmental aspects in their art practices.
Trisha Gupta is a contemporary artist, a community activist, an educator, and a leader of art as therapy. She works with textiles, paint, printmaking, and a variety of diverse mediums. Her work is heavily influenced by social inequality, and she explores themes of colonialism, mental health, and immigration. Juliet Drake Hossain works out of her home in Frederick, MD. Her favorite tools are paintbrushes and her Glowforge laser cutter. Her greatest inspirations are her vibrant children, outer space imagery, theatrical themes, nature, and the contemplation of self. http://julietsbalcony.com/
